Our students study and have fun with the techniques of major artists.

ART

Our art program is designed to make children feel successful, creative and comfortable with many different art elements and media.  While working with crayons, charcoal, pastels, paints and ink the children learn about line, shape, form, color and texture, just to name a few media and elements used.  Famous artists and artworks are explored, and the children are encouraged to experiment with the different styles of art.  Our children's artwork is displayed prominently in the main hallway of the school, as their creativity and self-esteem are bolstered through the art curriculum.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • The JCC offers many activities and enrichment programs for our children of all ages.  Click here for more information.

  • The HAMC Middle School Sports teams play against teams from other private as well as public schools. Athletic teams include:

Basketball (boys)
Soccer (co-ed team)
Volleyball (co-ed team)
Softball (girls team)
Baseball (boys team)

The extra-curricular athletics program fosters sportsmanship and teamwork and has become a great outlet for our students.  An additional bonus is the school pride that has been built as a result of the program.

Information regarding practices and games are posted right here on the web.  Just click on the sport to see the schedule!

CHOIR/MUSIC/SCHOOL PERFORMANCES

Since its earliest years, the Hebrew Academy has woven singing and performances into the fabric of a Hebrew Academy education as a way to instill in our students self-confidence and help them express the joy of their Jewish heritage. Today, Hebrew Academy youngsters perform on stage and in the community through a wide range of programming;  here are some highlights of our programs:

School Choir מקהלה
Students from grades 5-8 are eligible to participate in the HAMC Choir, which is led by Moreh Moshe Vaknin, assistant principal and musical program director.  The choir will perform during each Rosh Chodesh as well as at every major holiday celebration.  The HAMC Choir also performs at other venues within our community, including the local Jewish Community Center of MetroWest and area synagogues. The choir meets once a week.  The HAMC Choir performs in numerous venues throughout the year.

The Chamber Choir מקהלת הבית
The chamber choir is a group of 12 students who are carefully selected to perform at special occasions and outside of the school. Children may try out throughout the year for the chamber choir. A student who is in the chamber choir must be part of the school’s choir.  The Chamber Choir meets once a week.

Music Programs
Cantor Guy Bonné directs our music program. The students learn to read music while using keyboards and recorders. By third grade, students will be able to participate in an expanded instrumental program.  Providing numerous opportunities to perform on stage and boost self esteem, Moshe Vaknin directs school-wide programs for Chanukah and Passover, as well as an annual talent show for students in first through eighth grade.  Throughout the year, ECC children participate in a musical Shabbat  in the Sanctuary,  a Chanukah program in December, and the Grandparents and Special Friends Seder each spring.

TIKUN OLAM CLUB

Students Reach Out to the Community

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
                                                                                                Winston Churchill

This special club was formed when a group of parents decided take the lessons of tzedekah out of the classrooms and into the community by teaching their children  tikun olam, improving the world. They formed the Tikun Olam Club, an after-school program in which Hebrew Academy students help bring smiles to the faces of the elderly residents of a nursing home, young children in a day care center, soldiers in Iraq, and many others.

For Rosh Hashanah Moreh Moshe and more than 30 HAMC students sang for the seniors at Lester Housing. The numerous club activities include:   “Singing for Seniors” on holidays at the Lester Senior Housing at the Jewish Community Center in Whippany;  weekly visits to the Collinsville Daycare Center in downtown Morristown; assembling care packages for soldiers in Iraq;  Thanksgiving Turkey drives; holiday toy drives; creating Purim packages for the elderly or needy, and a school beautification project.

Please don’t hesitate to be a part of any or all of these wonderful opportunities to help the community at large and teach our children about civic responsibility in an enjoyable way.
