HSA ACTIVITIES

The membership of the Home and School Association (HSA) is comprised of the entire parent body of the Hebrew Academy of Morris County.  The organization's functions are as follows:

1.     To provide an opportunity for parents to meet and socialize.
2.     To act as a liaison between the school and the parents and to improve communication.
3.     To provide the students of the HAMC with holiday enrichment and special events.
4.     To participate in various fundraising activities in order to provide the students with these "extras."

HSA dues, payable with each year's enrollment, are required from each family in order to help achieve these goals.  HSA meetings and volunteer opportunities are open to all HAMC parents; help and suggestions are always welcome.

All families are urged to participate in the various HSA activities.  The HSA and all of its activities depend entirely on volunteers.  For more information on HSA activities, contact HSA President Barrie Archer and/or click here

Fundraising Activities

Passover Candy ‑ Candy is sold by the children to family, friends, and neighbors. 15% Give or Get credit given.

Supermarket Vouchers ‑ This is HSA's best fundraiser.  You write a check to HAMC and receive the same dollar value in vouchers, which you use as cash at the supermarket.  Vouchers for most of the local supermarkets are available.  3% Give or Get credit given.

Gift Wrap - In the fall, gift wrap is sold by the children to family, friends, and neighbors.  10% Give or Get credit is given.

Social Activities

Watch the notices that come home with your child for additional social activities.

New Parents' Tea - This is an opportunity for new parents to meet other new parents and get answers to any questions they might have.

Enrichment Activities

Volunteers are especially needed to help run these activities, which we offer our children, their parents, and their teachers.

Book Fair ‑ Each fall, the book fair offers a wide variety of reading materials for the students to purchase for their home libraries.  There is a second Buy1/Get 1 fair in the spring.

Gifts to the Graduates and B’nai Mitzvah ‑ We honor current students by giving a gift to each member of the graduating class and each Bar/Bat Mitzvah on his/her special day.

Holiday Enrichment ‑ To emphasize the beauty of many of the Jewish holidays, the children are treated with special parties and relevant foods on holidays such as Sukkot, Chanukah, Tu B'Shevat, Purim, and Pesach.  In addition, breafast for junior high and treats for elementary students are provided on Rosh Chodesh.

Dairy Lunch ‑ Twice a week, for a nominal fee, HSA provides lunch for the students with choices including ziti, macaroni and cheese, falafel and pizza.

School Pictures ‑ In the fall, students have the opportunity to have their individual and class pictures taken.

Staff Luncheon ‑ We welcome our faculty and staff back to school at luncheons given during their inservice day before school opens in September.

Give or Get

Each Hebrew Academy family has a Give or Get obligation which is due May 15th of each year.   This financial obligation can be paid in cash, or the family can earn credits, through April 1, toward all or part of the obligation.  After April1, the total credits are calculated, and families are billed in May for the difference.

Important to remember is that tuition fees do not cover the cost of educating a child and, in the process of earning credit, families are in turn helping to close that gap.  Every family is encouraged to raise more than the required amount.

Listed in the Home School Association section on fundraising above are several ways in which credit can be earned by supporting HSA efforts such as Supermarket Vouchers, Gift Wrap and Passover Candy Sales. As an example, if you spend $6000 a year for food ($115/week) and only use supermarket vouchers, you would earn $180 in give or get credit toward the obligation, and it wouldn't cost you anything more than you would normally spend.  It's that easy!

You can also purchase a tribute card in honor of a simcha or in memory of a loved one and earn Give or Get credit.  An acknowledgement will be sent to the family and you will earn 50% Give or Get credit.  Contact the Development Office for information.

The Ad Journal is an excellent way to help raise funds for the school and for families to earn Give or Get credit.  Each family is encouraged to place its own personal ad as well as solicit ads from family, friends, and community merchants for the journal printed each spring.  Families can earn up to 85% of the cost of each ad as credit toward your obligation.  So soliciting $1000 worth of ads could earn you $850 credit, a good portion of the K-8 obligation!

For more information on the Give or Get program, please contact the office.
