Tikkun Olam Club: Project Hurricane KatrinaOur Tikkun Olam Club organized a wonderful project for our students to help out their fellow Americans who suffered the wrath of Hurricane Katrina. With guidance on what was needed from the Houston-based United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, HAMC families donated hundreds of toiletries. On September 23, 2005, students of all ages and their parents came to the gymnasium to form assembly lines. We made more than 300 toiletry bags holding: shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and wipes. The items were shipped via UPS with the help of HAMC parent, David Beck. Thank you to Karen Secular and Merle Blackman for organizing this, and everyone else who helped in any way. A great mitzvah and a great way to end 5765!
